Virgin River Season 6: From the returning cast to what’s next for Mel and Jack’s relationship, here’s everything we know so far about the next season of this small-town series.
After Virgin River’s stellar fifth season, fans are wondering what the hit series will do next. After all, the series has featured wildfires, pregnancy problems, tragic deaths, confrontations with the illegal drug trade, a sexual harassment trial and much more.
Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith previously acknowledged the importance of Season 5, saying in an interview last year that he “doesn’t intend for further seasons to reach this level of depth.”
How will the next season continue? Smith explained: “My intention is to keep it light, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be complicated with twists and turns unique to Virgin River. And I think we’re also looking forward to expanding the romance of the series and giving the fans what they want.”
Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays Mel, said the final season will be “pretty stressful” between her miscarriage and realizing that her biological father, whom she’s never met, also lives in Virgin River. And while most of those stories will likely continue, Breckenridge said she’s especially excited to see where Mel’s journey goes, as it ended with her and Jack (Martin Henderson) in a “really beautiful place.” She joked, “I think there are better days ahead for them. They’re going to continue to be a strong couple as we move forward.” Now that Netflix has announced the return date for the 10-episode sixth season, THR is sharing everything we know so far about Virgin River’s sixth season, including first photos.
When will Virgin River Season 6 Release?
The series’ renewal for Season 6 was announced in May 2023 ahead of the fall 2023 premiere of Season 5, which began production in February, and Netflix finally announced the premiere date on Thursday, December 19.
The 10-episode season will be released simultaneously following the pilot season. The first 10 episodes of Season 5, which had a total of 12 episodes, were released simultaneously, and about three months later, the final two episodes were announced as holiday episodes.

Virgin River Season 6: Some of the storylines from the Christmas episode will continue in the new season, including Mel’s exploration of her new relationship with her biological father and her pregnancy issues with Jack.
Smith also gave fans plenty of teasers to tide them over while they wait, previously telling THR earlier this year that “Mel and Jack will continue their journey to becoming parents and turning Lily’s farm into their dream home. This purchase gives Jack the opportunity to find other dream projects.”
He added that the new season will take place a few months after Christmas, “in late spring,” and promised that “the babies and wedding bells won’t stop in Virgin River.” Virgin River Season 6
